Government of Goa in order to give more impetus to Women and Child in the State carved an independent Directorate in 1997 bifurcating from erstwhile Directorate of Social Welfare called “Directorate of Women & Child Development”. History of DWCD

Prior to 1997 the Directorate of Social Welfare was implementing some of the schemes enlisted below, however the State Government in line with the Central Government created a new Directorate in order to give a boost to schemes specifically for the welfare of Women and Children. A separate The Directorate of Women & Child Development therefore was created on 2nd June 1997.
