Directorate of Women and Child Development

Government of Goa in order to give more impetus to Women and Child in the State carved an independent Directorate in 1997 bifurcating from erstwhile Directorate of Social Welfare called “Directorate of Women & Child Development”. This Directorate deals with all issues pertaining to women and child, for its overall evelopment and empowerment.

Women & Child Development

There can be no justice, equality or comprehensive social and economic development in societies, which deny development activities to women and child. Because women form the foundation on which a stable, prosperous and happy family is built and child is the future of the nation.

History of DWCD

Prior to 1997 the Directorate of Social Welfare was implementing some of the schemes enlisted below, however the State Government in line with the Central Government created a new Directorate in order to give a boost to schemes specifically for the welfare of Women and Children. A separate The Directorate of Women & Child Development therefore was created on 2nd June 1997.
