Role of DWCD

Director is the Head of the Department and looks after all matters pertaining to the Department.

Jt. Director (I.C.D.S)

Dy. Director (Administration) looks after the administration of the Department.

Dy. Director (Child Welfare) looks after the issue related to the children of the Department.

District Programme Officers oversees theIntegrated Child Development Services (ICDS) spread over the entire 11 Talukas of Goa, which are headed by Child Development Project Officers at the Taluka level covering about 65,000 beneficiaries every year. Under the scheme 6 Services are provided namely

  1. Immunization
  2. Health Check-up,
  3. Referral Services,
  4. Supplementary,
  5. Nutrition and Health Education and
  6. Non-formal Education.

Social Welfare Officer looks after various social welfare schemes implemented by the Department namely:- Laadli Laxmi Scheme, Griha Aadhar Scheme, Grants to Mahila Mandals, Kanyadan, Shelter Home for Women, Welfare of Children in need of Care & Protection, Yashasvini, Yashadamini Awards, Besides all the Acts connecting women and child are also looked after by Social Welfare Officer namely The Goa Children’s Act, 2003, The Goa State Commission for Women Act & Rules 1996, The Commission for Protection of Child Rights Act, 2005 and Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005.

Superintendent looks after the functioning of institutions namely Protective Home, Merces. Protective Home provides shelter and protection to the women rescued under Immoral Traffic Prevention Act (ITPA)

Dy. Director (Apna Ghar) looks after the administration of the Apna Ghar, Merces

Superintendent- cum-Probation Officer looks after the functioning of Institutions namely Apna Ghar, Merces Apna Ghar, Merces provided shelter and protection for children in need of Care & Protection and also those children in conflict with law are admitted in the Institution.  Apna Ghar is set up under Juvenile Justice Act.

Goa State Commission for Women

The Goa State Commission for Women functions from Junta House, Panaji Goa and deals with women issues. The main objective of the Commission is to investigate, examine and recommend course of action in maters relating to women under the Constitution and other laws. It functions as a  recommendatory body for improving condition of women and review laws affecting women and suggest remedial, legislative measures and take up cases of violation of provision of Constitution & other laws.
